Leadership Statements
Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer, IndiGo, said:
“Entering Heathrow, a key global hub known for its scale and connectivity, is both a proud milestone and a strategic step forward in strengthening IndiGo’s global footprint. The India–United Kingdom corridor has long held significant relevance, not only because of strong bilateral ties, but also due to the growing traffic between the two countries driven by students, visiting friends and relatives, business and leisure travellers. After the outstanding response to our long-haul debut flights to Manchester, we are excited to set foot in London, offering more travel options for our customers while reinforcing our commitment to provide seamless connectivity between India and the world.”
Ross Baker, Chief Customer Officer, Heathrow Airport, added:
“We are pleased to welcome IndiGo’s new daily service between Mumbai and Heathrow. As the UK’s international gateway, this new route will further strengthen the vital ties between the UK and India, creating opportunities for trade, tourism and cultural exchange. We look forward to supporting IndiGo’s international growth while offering passengers more choice when travelling between these two world-class cities.”
Strategic Importance of Heathrow
Access to London Heathrow marks a major step in IndiGo’s long-haul ambitions. As a globally connected hub, Heathrow serves as a natural gateway for Indian travellers to Europe, North America, and beyond. With Mumbai as India’s financial capital and London as a leading global financial centre, this non-stop route is expected to significantly bolster trade, tourism, and business travel between the two nations.
Moreover, the new service will allow travellers from the UK and Europe seamless access to 90+ destinations across IndiGo’s extensive domestic network, along with growing connectivity to South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and more.
