Air India Express honors Nagaland cultural heritage

Air India Express created a memorable cultural moment in Nagaland as Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio welcomed the airline’s new Boeing 737-8 aircraft at Dimapur Airport. The aircraft features a striking livery inspired by the Tsüngkotepsü warrior shawl of the Ao tribe, honouring one of Nagaland’s most iconic cultural symbols. This event also marked the beginning of the airline’s role as the Official Travel Partner for the Hornbill Festival 2025. Traditional dancers performed at the ceremony, showcasing the colour, rhythm, and pride of Naga culture.

Held annually from 1 to 10 December, the Hornbill Festival is widely known as India’s ‘Festival of Festivals’, attracting visitors from around the world to experience Nagaland’s diverse tribal heritage, craftsmanship, and folklore. The partnership with Air India Express aims to enhance accessibility and boost regional tourism by encouraging travellers to explore the State’s rich cultural landscape.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio welcomed the collaboration, noting that the Tsüngkotepsü livery is a meaningful tribute that carries Nagaland’s identity across India. He added that the Hornbill Festival celebrates unity, creativity, and heritage, and that the association with Air India Express will help the State invite more visitors, strengthen cultural appreciation, and build a more connected travel ecosystem rooted in local identity.

Air India Express Managing Director Aloke Singh said the partnership aligns with the airline’s Tales of India initiative, which highlights the artistry and stories of India’s diverse regions. He emphasised that the aircraft design honours Nagaland’s cultural legacy. To support travel to the festival, the airline is offering a 15% discount on flights to and from Dimapur until 10 December 2025.

To further engage visitors, Air India Express has introduced a Hornbill-themed photobooth at Dimapur Airport and a community art canvas at Kisama Heritage Village. Travellers can win free flights by posting photos from these locations on social media with the hashtag #XploreMore and tagging @airindiax. The airline is also enhancing connectivity with daily flights between Dimapur and Guwahati, offering convenient links to major cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Jaipur.

Air India Express continues to celebrate India’s cultural diversity through unique aircraft liveries, festive menus, and customer-focused initiatives. The airline recently upgraded its Boeing 737-8 cabins with enhanced seating, USB charging, refreshed interiors, and Boeing Sky Interior lighting. Across its fleet, designs inspired by Moirang Phee, Gamosa, Puanchei, and other regional art forms highlight India’s artistic heritage while delivering a warm, modern, and comfortable travel experience.
