South Korea extends visa fee waiver for six countries until June 2026

South Korea has extended its visa processing fee waiver for tourists from six countries—China, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Cambodia—until June 2026. The measure had originally been due to expire in December 2025.

The announcement was made by Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol, who said the extension is aimed at supporting the recovery and continued growth of inbound tourism. The waiver is expected to help sustain travel demand and boost tourism-related spending.

By removing visa processing fees, the policy lowers travel costs and simplifies entry for visitors from key Asian source markets that play a major role in South Korea’s tourism sector. Authorities said the move will help the country remain competitive as regional travel demand continues to rise, while providing support to tourism infrastructure and businesses reliant on international arrivals.

The waiver is also intended to encourage short-term visits and repeat travel from nearby, high-volume markets. Increased visitor numbers are expected to benefit sectors such as accommodation, transport, retail, and entertainment, while contributing to job creation and regional economic activity.

The extension forms part of South Korea’s broader tourism strategy, which includes enhancing air connectivity, promoting regional destinations, and ensuring a more balanced spread of visitors beyond major cities. Officials noted that the visa fee waiver will remain an important tool as the country works to strengthen its position in the regional and global tourism market through 2026.
