Odisha promotes Culinary Tourism through Odia cuisine initiative

The Odisha government is strengthening its focus on culinary tourism with a new initiative aimed at promoting authentic Odia cuisine both within the state and across key markets in India. The move forms part of a broader strategy to showcase Odisha’s rich culinary heritage as a distinct tourism offering.

Under the initiative, tourism authorities are encouraging the establishment and operation of restaurants dedicated to traditional Odia cuisine. The effort seeks to enhance visitor experiences while creating greater awareness of the state’s diverse food culture, regional specialties, and indigenous culinary traditions.

Industry stakeholders believe food tourism is emerging as a major driver of destination marketing, with travellers increasingly seeking authentic local experiences alongside cultural and heritage attractions. Odisha’s emphasis on culinary tourism is expected to complement its existing tourism offerings, including heritage, eco-tourism, wildlife, and spiritual tourism.

Tourism experts note that promoting regional cuisine can help strengthen destination branding, support local entrepreneurs, and generate new opportunities for hospitality and tourism businesses. The initiative also aligns with Odisha’s broader vision of diversifying tourism experiences and increasing visitor engagement across the state.
