Cambodia adopts UPI payments for Indian travellers

Cambodia has become the latest international destination to accept India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), further enhancing payment convenience for Indian travellers visiting the Southeast Asian nation. With the integration, Indian visitors can make seamless digital transactions at participating merchants using UPI-enabled mobile payment applications.

The development positions Cambodia as the ninth country to enable UPI-based payments, reflecting the growing global adoption of India’s digital payment infrastructure. The initiative is expected to simplify travel experiences by reducing dependence on cash exchanges and international card transactions.

Industry stakeholders believe the move will benefit both travellers and local businesses by facilitating secure, real-time payments and improving transaction efficiency. The expanded acceptance of UPI also supports stronger tourism and economic ties between India and Cambodia.

Tourism experts note that easier payment options play an increasingly important role in destination choice, particularly among digitally savvy travellers. The integration is expected to enhance convenience for Indian tourists exploring Cambodia’s cultural, heritage, and leisure attractions.

The latest expansion further strengthens UPI’s international footprint and aligns with broader efforts to improve cross-border digital payment connectivity for Indian travellers worldwide.
