To enable international tourists to experience Mumbai’s iconic Ganesh Visarjan ceremony at the historic Girgaon Chowpatty on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, the Maharashtra Tourism Department has set up a special viewing pavilion. The initiative will give foreign visitors an opportunity to experience Maharashtra’s rich cultural traditions, understand the historical and spiritual significance of Ganeshotsav, and witness the grandeur of the immersion ceremony from close quarters.
International tourists will be present at Girgaon Chowpatty to witness the grand Ganesh Visarjan ceremony. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch the Ganesh processions and participate in the worship and aarti of Lord Ganesha, along with the traditional chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya.” Against the backdrop of traditional Maharashtrian attire, the energetic beats of dhol-tasha and a deeply devotional atmosphere, tourists will get a first-hand glimpse of Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage.
Mumbai’s Ganeshotsav has acquired a distinctive identity through its long-standing tradition of widespread public participation, elaborate decorations by various Ganesh mandals, vibrant processions and the grand Visarjan ceremony. The special pavilion has been conceptualised to present this unique cultural experience to tourists in an organised and engaging manner. The initiative is expected to boost cultural tourism in the state while highlighting Maharashtra’s rich cultural identity on the international stage.

The Maharashtra Tourism Department is undertaking several initiatives to introduce international tourists to the diverse cultural traditions and festivals of Maharashtra. Through a people-centric festival like Ganeshotsav, the government is making efforts to take Maharashtra’s unique cultural identity to visitors from across the world. By encouraging such initiatives, we are promoting the growth of tourism in the state through cultural tourism.”

Initiatives such as these will help showcase Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage more effectively to audiences at the international level.”
