Madhya Pradesh is looking to diversify its wildlife tourism offerings through conservation-led experiences, community participation and lesser-explored natural attractions. The initiative was discussed during the Madhya Pradesh Travel Mart 2026 at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre, under the theme “Vibrant Landscapes of India’s Wilds: Wildlife, Community, and Sustainable Tourism in Madhya Pradesh.”
Union Tourism Secretary Bhuvnesh Kumar emphasised that wildlife tourism should extend beyond conventional safaris, with greater attention to ecosystem protection, responsible visitor behaviour and benefits for local communities. He highlighted the importance of training residents in hospitality, communication and guiding to help communities participate more actively in tourism and benefit from the economic opportunities it generates.
The proposed experiences include dolphin sightings along the Chambal, biodiversity exploration in the Gandhi Sagar region and activities linked to vulture conservation. The state is also looking to expand wildlife tourism beyond established destinations such as Kanha to areas including Ratapani, Satpura, Sanjay and Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserves.
L. Krishnamurthy, CEO of the Madhya Pradesh Eco-Tourism Development Board, highlighted the importance of tourist safety, trained guides and drivers, and community involvement in developing these experiences. Madhya Pradesh Tourism Secretary and Tourism Board Managing Director Ilaiyaraja T reiterated the state’s focus on conserving natural resources while creating employment and livelihood opportunities. Destinations such as Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Satpura, Panna and Madhav also offer scope for community-led experiences involving homestays, local cuisine, handicrafts and cultural activities.
Through this approach, Madhya Pradesh aims to broaden its appeal among nature-conscious travellers while positioning conservation and community development as integral parts of its tourism growth.
