Rajasthan unveils Film Tourism Promotion Policy with lucrative sops of subsidies and incentives

The Rajasthan Government unveils its new Film Tourism Promotion Policy at a function held in the Shekhawati town of Mandawa, aiming to position the state as a major national and international filming hub.

Releasing the policy, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage, vast desert landscapes, historic forts and palaces, and diverse natural locations meet international filming standards. He said the new policy would significantly promote the state’s history, culture, and legacy on global platforms while generating employment and skill development opportunities for the youth.

Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, who holds the Finance and Tourism portfolio, said the policy offers a comprehensive package of subsidies, incentives, and procedural relaxations to encourage filmmakers to choose Rajasthan as their preferred shooting destination.

She said film shooting would be promoted not only through financial support but also by simplifying approval procedures. To ensure smooth and time-bound permissions, the state will further strengthen its single-window clearance system for film shootings.

Under the policy, subsidies will be granted on a pro-rata basis, depending on the category and nature of the project, including feature films, web series, television serials, and documentaries. Factors such as total expenditure on shooting, duration of filming, and screen time showcasing Rajasthan’s locations and culture will be considered while determining the incentive amount.

Projects shot entirely in Rajasthan will be eligible for additional subsidies and incentives. The quality, theme, and storyline of the film will also play a role in the incentive approval process.

Films shot in Rajasthan that receive National Film Awards from the Government of India will be given a special incentive of ₹50 lakh.

To promote formal education and professional training in the film sector, Rajasthan domicile students studying in premier film and drama institutions will also be eligible for scholarships, the Deputy Chief Minister added.

The new policy is expected to boost tourism, attract investment, and establish Rajasthan as a leading destination for film production in India.
