HHTDN to celebrate World Tourism Day 2025 with focus on sustainable transformation in the Himalayas

The Himalayan Hospitality & Tourism Development Network (HHTDN) announces a series of events to celebrate World Tourism Day 2025 on Saturday, September 27, with the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

In partnership with Mayfair Hotels & Resorts, the celebrations will include a press conference and the 7th Himalayan Hospitality & Tourism Awards, focusing on sustainable tourism practices across the Indian Himalayan region.

HHTDN aims to position the Bengal Himalayas as a global benchmark for eco-friendly, community-driven tourism. Key areas of focus include green certification for accommodations, promotion of homestays and local crafts, clean energy initiatives, eco-trekking, and advocacy for sustainable infrastructure.

The event will also feature the announcement of actionable proposals, to be submitted to the Department of Tourism, Government of West Bengal, marking a collective pledge toward responsible tourism in the region.

The initiative aligns with the UNWTO’s global call to place sustainability, resilience, and community at the core of tourism development.
