Indian Railways adds Reasi stop to Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express

In a significant move to strengthen connectivity and boost tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, Indian Railways introduces a two-minute stoppage at Reasi railway station for the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express. The decision, announced by Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, marks another major step toward linking Kashmir seamlessly with the rest of India through advanced railway infrastructure.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express made history as the first rail service connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The addition of the Reasi stop is expected to enhance regional accessibility, benefiting local commuters, pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, and tourists exploring the scenic Chenab Bridge and nearby attractions.

The stoppage will operate on a trial basis for one month, departing from Katra at 8:10 a.m., halting at Reasi at 8:28 a.m., and continuing toward Srinagar. On its return, the train will stop at Reasi at 4:34 p.m. The continuation of the halt will depend on passenger feedback and commercial viability, reflecting Indian Railways’ commitment to demand-driven and passenger-friendly operations.

The decision follows requests from local residents and political representatives, acknowledging Reasi’s growing importance as a district headquarters and tourism hub.

Local leaders, including BJP MLA Kuldeep Raj Dubey and District President Rohit Dubey, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for fulfilling a long-standing public demand. They noted that this addition will foster new opportunities for tourism, trade, and regional development.

Indian Railways continues to prioritise passenger convenience and regional connectivity. Earlier this year, special services were introduced between Katra and Banihal when road transport was disrupted by heavy rains—demonstrating the department’s dedication to uninterrupted and efficient travel across Jammu and Kashmir.
