IndiGo doubles its Airbus A350-900 order to 60 aircraft

IndiGo announces the signing of a contract with Airbus, confirming the conversion of 30 out of its 70 purchase rights for the Airbus A350-900 into firm orders. With this agreement, IndiGo has doubled its wide-body aircraft orderfrom 30 to 60 A350-900s, strengthening its long-haul expansion strategy.

This follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between IndiGo and Airbus at the IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in New Delhi in June 2025. IndiGo had initially placed an order for 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft in April 2024—its first wide-body purchase—while retaining purchase rights for an additional 70 A350 Family aircraft. After exercising 30 of those rights, the airline now holds purchase rights for 40 more wide-body aircraft.

Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo, said:
“Today marks a special milestone for IndiGo as we reaffirm our commitment to expanding our international footprint and enhancing global connectivity. Converting our MoU into a firm order for 30 additional A350-900s underscores our confidence in the future of Indian aviation and in our partnership with Airbus. These aircraft will play a crucial role in connecting India to more destinations worldwide, in line with the nation’s vision of becoming a global aviation hub and IndiGo’s ambition to be a leading global airline by 2030.”

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft, Airbus, added:
“The A350’s unmatched fuel efficiency, range, and passenger comfort align perfectly with IndiGo’s long-haul ambitions. This milestone reinforces our strong collaboration with one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world, and we look forward to supporting their expansion into new international markets.”

The Airbus A350-900 will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, known for their exceptional fuel efficiency and reliability. The aircraft’s advanced performance will offer IndiGo enhanced operational flexibility and strategic growth opportunities as it enters its next phase of expansion.

IndiGo recently launched services to Manchester and Amsterdam, with Copenhagen, London, and Athens to follow soon using its temporarily damp-leased Boeing 787-9 and soon-to-be-inducted Airbus A321XLR aircraft. The arrival of the A350-900 fleet will further extend IndiGo’s global reach, opening new routes to the Americas and other long-haul destinations.
