Indonesia strengthens tourism ties with India through business matching initiative

The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia held a Business Matching activity  in response to the market opportunities for Indian tourists, which continues to show a positive trend for Indonesian tourism.

Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday (18/11/2025) that India is a new gold market for Indonesia’s tourism sector. In 2024, a total of 710,688 Indian tourists visited Indonesia, a 17% increase from the previous year.

“Observing the increase in Indian tourist visits every year, we are driven to focus on this market. Through this business-matching activity, we hope more Indian tourists will discover the beauty and diversity of Indonesian destinations, not just Bali,” according to Ni Made Ayu.

This business matching session brought together 23 Indonesian sellers, comprising travel agents/tour operators, hotels and resorts, and restaurants, with at least 50 Indian buyers, including travel agents, tour operators, MICE organizers, and other tourism stakeholders.

Indonesia, through this activity, not only offers its destinations, but also experiences. The Indian market is also known for its high purchasing power, particularly in the luxury travel, honeymoon, and family travel segments.

Therefore, Indonesian sellers can offer premium tour packages that suit the preferences of Indian tourists.

“The Indian market is highly potential. They are loyal, enjoy authentic experiences, and have a strong interest in wedding and honeymoon destinations. This business matching activity serves as an opportunity to expand our network and strengthen Indonesia’s position as a leading destination in Asia,” she added.

In addition to strengthening Indonesia’s image as a world-class destination, this program is also expected to significantly contribute to achieving the target of foreign tourist visits in 2025.

With a more intensive business-to-business strategy, Indonesia is optimistic about attracting more Indian tourists to vacation, get married, and honeymoon in Bali and Beyond destinations.

Dedi Ahmad Kurnia, Assistant Deputy for International Tourism Marketing I at the Ministry of Tourism, added that Bali remains the main magnet. However, the trends demonstrate that interest from Indian tourists is starting to expand to other destinations in Indonesia.

“We aim to start promoting Bali and Beyond, providing more options for the Indian market to other leading destinations in Indonesia, such as Yogyakarta and Bintan,” Dedi said.

Ina Hagniningtyas Krisnamurthi, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of India, was also present at the business-matching session in New Delhi. She stated that Indonesia is not a transit area, but rather a destination with numerous beautiful places to visit.

“Let’s visit Indonesia. We have the world’s largest Buddhist temple, which is a world heritage site, the Borobudur Temple. We also have Prambanan Temple. In the future, I hope for more direct flights from New Delhi to Jakarta,” Ina said.
