ITA Airways launches direct Rome Mauritius flight

ITA Airways, inaugurates its new direct flight between Rome Fiumicino and Mauritius, connecting Italy to one of the most captivating destinations in the Indian Ocean.

The inaugural flight from Rome Fiumicino landed at 11:20 a.m. (local time) at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, operated by the airline’s new Airbus A330neo—the cutting edge of ITA Airways’ fleet and a benchmark in technology, digitalization, innovation, efficiency, and Made in Italy design.

Ribbon-cutting marks new era of connectivity

To celebrate the launch of this new intercontinental route—ITA Airways’ first nonstop service to Mauritius—a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at SSR International Airport in the presence of institutional guests, local media, stakeholders, and ITA Airways’ senior management.

Among those in attendance were:

  • H.E. Mr. Stefano Zinno, Honorary Consul of Italy in Mauritius
    along with key tourism partners and industry representatives.

A bridge between nations

The new direct connection is set to strengthen ties between Italy and Mauritius, boost tourism flows, and create opportunities for future collaboration between the two countries.

Expanding horizons: ITA Airways’ growing intercontinental network

The new direct flight is a key addition to ITA Airways’ Winter 2025–2026 schedule, operating two weekly frequencies:

  • From Mauritius to Rome: Saturdays and Mondays, departing 10:10 p.m. and arriving 6:40 a.m.

  • From Rome to Mauritius: Fridays and Sundays, departing 10:00 p.m. and arriving 11:20 a.m. the next day.

Through its Rome Fiumicino hub, ITA Airways offers passengers seamless connections to its extensive network of domestic and international destinations.

A premium experience aboard the Airbus A330-900neo

The inaugural flight was operated by ITA Airways’ state-of-the-art Airbus A330-900neo, featuring a three-class configuration:

  • 30 Business Class seats that recline fully into flat beds

  • 24 Premium Economy seats

  • 237 Economy Class seats, including 36 Comfort Economy

The cabin showcases elegant interiors, refined lighting, advanced in-flight entertainment, and full Wi-Fi connectivity—ensuring maximum comfort and a premium travel experience. The overnight schedule allows passengers, including families, to enjoy a more relaxed journey.

Connecting Italy to the world

With the addition of Mauritius, ITA Airways will serve 53 destinations during the Winter 2025–2026 season: 16 domestic, 21 international, and 16 intercontinental routes across North and South America, Africa, and Asia.

Highlights of the winter schedule include:

  • Resumption of Rome–Malé (Maldives) service from December 19, 2025

  • Increased frequencies to Bangkok (from five to seven weekly flights starting December 8, 2025)

  • Expanded service to Buenos Aires (ten weekly flights between December 16, 2025, and January 9, 2026)

Since its launch on October 15, 2021, ITA Airways has positioned itself as an ambassador of Made in Italy worldwide. The airline celebrates Italian excellence across every detail—from menus crafted by Michelin-starred chefs inspired by Italian culinary traditions, to uniforms designed under the creative direction of Brunello Cucinelli, and aircraft interiors conceived by Walter de Silva.
