PM Modi’s state visit highlights strengthening India-Maldives ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a State Visit to the Maldives from July 25 to 26, 2025, at the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Marking the 60th anniversary of Maldivian independence, PM Modi will serve as the Guest of Honour at the official celebrations on July 26.

This will be Modi’s third visit to the Maldives and the first by a foreign Head of State or Government during President Muizzu’s tenure. The visit is expected to feature high-level talks between the two leaders, focusing on regional cooperation and shared priorities under the India-Maldives Joint Vision for a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership.

Originally adopted during President Muizzu’s visit to India in October 2024, the framework emphasizes collaboration in infrastructure, maritime security, economic growth, and Indian Ocean strategic alignment. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the visit as a reflection of India’s commitment to its maritime neighbour under the ‘Neighbourhood First’ and Vision MAHASAGAR policies.

PM Modi’s stop in Malé will follow an official visit to the UK (July 23–24), where he is set to meet British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and King Charles III. His presence in the Maldives is expected to reaffirm and deepen India-Maldives ties amid evolving regional dynamics.
