Tourism and hospitality leaders meet finance minister on visa and GST reforms

Ahead of Union Budget 2026–27, leading figures from India’s tourism and hospitality industry convened with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to present key recommendations aimed at boosting the sector’s growth and competitiveness.

Industry representatives emphasized the need for simplified visa regulations to enhance inbound tourism and reiterated the call for granting tourism and hospitality full industry status. Hotel chains also sought clarity on GST applicability for room tariffs exceeding Rs 7,500.

Medical tourism was highlighted as a high-potential segment, with healthcare leaders urging strengthened infrastructure to establish India as a global destination for advanced and affordable medical care.

The delegation included senior leaders from VFS Global, Radisson Hotel Group, MakeMyTrip, Apollo Hospitals, Max Healthcare, and the Indian Association of Tour Operators, reflecting the breadth of the sector across travel, hospitality, and healthcare.

The Finance Ministry is expected to review these recommendations as it finalizes proposals for the Union Budget 2026–27.
