Slovenia announces the launch of its first-ever digital nomad visa, set to take effect from November 21, 2025. The new visa category offers an immigration pathway for remote workers, enabling eligible foreign nationals to live in the country for up to one year while working remotely for employers or clients based outside Slovenia.
Nestled in Central Europe and bordered by Italy, Austria, and Croatia, Slovenia is known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and traditions such as historic winemaking and lace weaving. With this new initiative, the country joins a growing list of nations welcoming remote professionals under structured immigration policies.
The non-renewable permit is valid for one year. However, applicants may reapply six months after the expiry of their previous permit. To qualify, individuals must be employed, contracted, or self-employed with entities located outside Slovenia, and must be engaged in remote work through digital communication technologies.
Applicants are required to demonstrate sufficient income, in line with government regulations, using documents such as salary contracts, payslips, or bank statements showing consistent monthly income.
Applications can be submitted either in person or by post at a Slovenian consular post abroad or at a domestic administrative unit for those already present in Slovenia. Applicants filing from within the country will receive a certificate that temporarily serves as a residence permit while their application is processed.
Family members of approved digital nomad visa holders are also eligible to apply for residency permits of equal duration, although neither the principal applicant nor their dependents are permitted to work locally or earn income from Slovenian-based businesses. All professional activity must remain tied to foreign employers or clients.
This visa marks a significant shift in Slovenia’s immigration policy, offering new opportunities for global remote workers seeking to experience life in one of Europe’s most scenic and culturally rich destinations.
