SriLankan Airlines expands self-check-in at BIA

SriLankan Airlines’ Airport and Ground Services, expands its self-check-in service for customer airlines ahead of the peak winter travel season, which is expected to bring over 300,000 tourists to Sri Lanka in December. The rollout follows last month’s installation of 20 new self-check-in kiosks, increasing the total to 28 and enhancing efficiency in line with national tourism development efforts.

Since its introduction in 2023, the self-check-in system has seen growing adoption, with 15% of SriLankan Airlines’ departing passengers now using kiosks to select seats, print boarding passes and generate bag tags, helping reduce congestion at departure counters.

Deepal Pallegangoda, Head of Airport and Ground Services, said, “We are delighted to extend self-check-in facilities to our customer airlines, whose passengers make up 60% of those we handle. With over 300,000 passengers departing Colombo each month, our upgraded self-service infrastructure strengthens the airport’s capacity and reinforces SriLankan Airlines’ leadership in digital airport solutions. Singapore Airlines will be the first foreign carrier to adopt the service, and we look forward to more joining soon.”

With thousands of passengers transiting through BIA daily, SriLankan Airlines is fully prepared to manage the seasonal surge through advanced digital solutions and enhanced service capability.
