The agreement, signed in Geneva by Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, and John Lamola, CEO of South African Airways, will take effect on March 1, 2026.

Under the partnership, Turkish Airlines will add its TK code to South African Airways flights across key African destinations including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Windhoek, Harare, Victoria Falls, and Mauritius. In return, South African Airways will place its SA code on select Turkish Airlines flights connecting İstanbul with Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Frankfurt, Paris, and London.

Speaking on the partnership, Ahmet Bolat highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation in Africa and strengthening sustainable, long-term connectivity. John Lamola noted that the agreement marks a strategic expansion of safe and competitive air services, supporting tourism, trade, and economic development.

This collaboration further solidifies Turkish Airlines’ position as the carrier with the most extensive network in Africa, serving 65 destinations across 41 countries, while offering South African Airways passengers seamless access to Turkish Airlines’ global network spanning 355 destinations in 131 countries.
