Uttar Pradesh named theme state for 39th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026

Uttar Pradesh has been selected as the theme state for the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026, offering the state a prestigious global platform to showcase its rich cultural heritage. The internationally acclaimed fair will be held in Haryana from January 31 to February 14, 2026, celebrating India’s folk traditions, crafts, and cultural legacy.

According to an official release from the state information department, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department will present the state’s identity shaped by ancient civilisation, vibrant folk arts, unique handicrafts, handloom and textile traditions, folk music, folk dance, and regional cuisine. The initiative aims to highlight the creativity and craftsmanship of local artisans before an international audience.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said that Surajkund Mela 2026 will be particularly significant, with 40 handicraft stalls curated under the One District One Product initiative. These stalls will act as a strong platform to promote the state’s handicraft and handloom sectors while supporting local artisans.

A wide range of products from different districts will be showcased, including glass bangles from Firozabad, perfumes from Kannauj, black pottery from Azamgarh, and Zari-zardozi and Chikankari crafts from Varanasi, Lucknow, and Bhadohi, reflecting the diversity of Uttar Pradesh’s traditional industries.

The mela will also host an enhanced cultural programme, featuring five to six performances daily between 10 am and 6 pm. These performances will include folk music, folk dances, and traditional art forms from Uttar Pradesh, with participation from 50 to 100 artists each day. Fashion shows showcasing traditional and contemporary attire and jewellery will be organised over three weekends.

Principal Secretary Tourism and Culture Amrit Abhijat said that eco-friendly décor, district-specific designs, dedicated signage, and QR codes will be used to enhance visitor engagement. Each district will serve as a cultural ambassador, making the Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026 a major opportunity for Uttar Pradesh to present its folk traditions, handicraft heritage, and cultural diversity on a global stage.
