Visakhapatnam has added a major tourism landmark with the inauguration of India’s longest cantilever glass skywalk at the iconic Kailasagiri hilltop park. Standing 862 feet above ground, the new attraction offers sweeping panoramic views of the coastline, surrounding hills, and the Bay of Bengal, setting a new benchmark for immersive tourism experiences in the region.
The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) inaugurated the skywalk in the presence of local elected representatives and officials. Completed in just eight months, the project forms a key part of the city’s broader strategy to strengthen tourism infrastructure and elevate Kailasagiri as a premier visitor destination.
Engineered with toughened, high-strength glass, the structure is designed to withstand extreme conditions, including wind speeds of up to 250 km/h—integrating lessons learned from past severe cyclones. While the skywalk can structurally support over 100 people, authorities have capped entry at 40 visitors at a time to ensure maximum safety and comfort.
Following an extensive location survey, the skywalk was positioned at the most visually rewarding point on the hilltop. The advanced cantilever design ensures robust support while offering unobstructed views of both the cityscape and the sea. Officials note that the experience blends adventure, scenic beauty, and world-class safety standards, delivering a memorable attraction for residents and tourists alike.
