Malaysia officially launched the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign with a nationwide series of welcome events at major international gateways and transportation hubs, ushering in the New Year with coordinated celebrations for arriving international visitors.
The opening-day initiative, led by Tourism Malaysia, was held simultaneously at 55 key entry points and strategic locations across all 13 states, signalling a unified national effort behind the country’s flagship tourism campaign.
The primary reception was held at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), where YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, joined welcoming activities for arriving travellers. Parallel ceremonies were organised at airports, land border checkpoints and major transport terminals nationwide.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister said: “VM2026 is not merely a tourism campaign; it is a nationwide movement that reflects our unity, harmony, warmth, and cultural diversity. By welcoming travellers on the first day of the year, we are highlighting Malaysia’s commitment to delivering an inclusive, creative and hospitable tourism experience throughout 2026.”
The nationwide celebrations were supported through close collaboration with state governments, airlines, airport authorities, tourism industry stakeholders and a wide range of strategic and corporate partners. Contributions included logistical coordination, venue preparation and sponsorships in the form of vouchers, food and beverage products, souvenirs and attraction discounts.
These initiatives were designed to enhance the arrival experience while showcasing Malaysia’s cultural diversity, hospitality and tourism offerings. The synchronised welcome activities across the country served as a signal of Malaysia’s readiness to receive international visitors at scale.
At selected locations, early-arriving travellers were greeted with traditional cultural performances, contemporary showcases infused with heritage elements, street buskers and appearances by the official VM2026 mascots, Wira and Manja. Visitors also received VM2026-themed souvenirs, including mascot keychains, aimed at creating a memorable first impression.
