Jamaica celebrates 63rd Independence Anniversary with vibrant cultural showcase in New Delhi

The Jamaican High Commission in New Delhi hosted a magnificent celebration to commemorate Jamaica’s 63rd Independence anniversary under the theme “Be Proud, Be Bold, in the Black, Green and Gold”, bringing together more than 900 guests for a truly unforgettable evening. Held at the Andaz Delhi, the event was a vibrant showcase of Jamaica’s culture and hospitality, and a testament of the ever-strengthening ties with India.

The evening commenced with a warm address from H.E. Jason K. M. Hall, Jamaica’s High Commissioner to India, who underscored the significance of the National Day and highlighted the deepening bilateral partnership between the two countries:

“We are celebrating multiple milestones: 63 years of Independence, alongside 63 years of uninterrupted diplomatic relations with India; 187 years of the full abolition of slavery; and earlier in May, we marked 180 years since the first Indian Arrival in Jamaica. We are delighted to share on this occasion a glimpse of Jamaica, hopefully compelling our friends and colleagues to visit.”

Guests were immersed in an authentic Jamaican experience from start to finish. The Jamaican reggae artiste ‘Tessellated’, electrified the crowd with a dynamic live performance that captured the spirit and soul of the island. The culinary journey was equally impressive, with a popular outdoor jerk station and a special Ital food station offering delectable Jamaican cuisine. The Appleton Estate Rum offered guests a taste of Jamaica’s finest spirit. Attendees also enjoyed the exquisite taste of Jamaica’s Blue Mountain Coffee, which featured at the celebration.

The event was well attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, senior government officials, industry leaders, media representatives, and cultural icons, who truly reflected the enduring friendship between Jamaica and India.

The evening was also honoured by the presence of Smt. Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, India, who served as the Chief Guest. As part of the evening’s program, she was warmly felicitated by High Commissioner Hall. The gesture underscored the strong diplomatic and cultural ties between Jamaica and India.
