In a historic step toward enhancing tourism and connectivity, Madhya Pradesh launches the PM Shri Tourism Helicopter Service, making it the first state in India to establish intra-state air connectivity. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav officially inaugurated the service at Raja Bhoj International Airport, Bhopal, flagging off four helicopters that took flight toward Ujjain, marking the beginning of a new era in regional air tourism.
The ceremony was graced by Tourism, Culture, and Religious Trust & Endowment Minister (Independent Charge) Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi, alongside senior officials from the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board. Operated by the Board, the service aims to connect key tourist, religious, and wildlife destinations across the state through efficient and scenic aerial routes. Regular operations will commence on November 20, 2025, covering three major tourism sectors under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Culture, Home, and Religious Trusts & Endowments, and Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, highlighted the significance of the initiative:
“Given Madhya Pradesh’s vast geography, the new helicopter service is a crucial step toward strengthening air connectivity within the state. This initiative will provide new momentum to tourism and further enhance Madhya Pradesh’s identity on the national and international tourism map.”
The PM Shri Tourism Air Service, launched a year ago to facilitate tourist air travel, has already served over 10,000 passengers. Building on this success, the helicopter service will operate five days a week across three designated tourism sectors. Under the PPP model, contracts have been signed for a three-year period with M/s Trans Bharat Aviation for Sector 1 and M/s Jet Serve Aviation Pvt. Ltd. for Sectors 2 and 3.
In the initial phase, each sector will be served by helicopters with a minimum seating capacity of six passengers, providing a safe, convenient, and premium travel experience.
This pioneering initiative is set to redefine tourism in Madhya Pradesh—offering visitors seamless access to its diverse landscapes, sacred sites, and wildlife reserves, while boosting the state’s position as a leading destination for both domestic and international travelers.
