Air India deploys new B787-9 with upgraded cabins on Mumbai–Frankfurt route

Air India announces a significant enhancement to its popular Mumbai–Frankfurt service with the deployment of its newly delivered, first line-fit (made-for-Air India) Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring new cabin interiors, effective 1 February 2026.

Air India operates five weekly flights between Mumbai and Frankfurt, offering vital connectivity between the financial centres of India and Germany. With the introduction of the upgraded B787-9 on this route, all Air India services to Germany are now operated using new or refurbished aircraft, including flights between Delhi and Frankfurt.

The upgrade forms part of Air India’s ongoing fleet transformation programme, which will continue through 2026 with additional widebody aircraft deliveries and cabin retrofits. This initiative will bring modernised interiors and enhanced onboard comfort to a substantial portion of the airline’s long-haul fleet.

Extended connectivity beyond Frankfurt with Lufthansa codeshare

Further enhancing the travel experience, Air India’s codeshare partnership with Lufthansa enables passengers to enjoy seamless onward connections beyond Frankfurt to 29 destinations across Europe, as well as select points in North America and South America.

Convenient connections between Europe and Asia-Pacific

Air India’s optimised European flight schedules also provide convenient one-stop connectivity for travellers from Frankfurt and other European cities via Delhi or Mumbai to key destinations across the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia, and vice versa. This expanded network supports smooth journeys to popular cities including Bangkok, Bali, Colombo, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Phuket, and Singapore, benefiting both business and leisure travellers seeking efficient global connections.
