Sarawak Tourism Board confirms second participation at OTM 2026, strengthens focus on Indian market

Sarawak Tourism Board announces its second consecutive participation at Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) 2026, India’s leading travel trade exhibition, scheduled to take place from February 5 to 7, 2026 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai. Located at booth P-H310, Sarawak’s presence highlights India’s importance as a high-potential source market and reflects the destination’s continued commitment to deepening engagement with Indian travellers and the travel trade.

The Sarawak delegation will be led by The Honourable Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP); The Honourable Datuk Sebastian Ting, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP); The Honourable Dato Dennis Ngau, Chairman of Sarawak Tourism Board; and Dr. Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board. They will be joined by representatives and co-exhibitors from across Sarawak’s tourism ecosystem, reflecting a unified and collaborative approach to expanding the destination’s footprint in India.

Reinforcing the strategic importance of OTM 2026, The Honourable Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah will participate as a panel speaker during the Inaugural Session. His presence on this high-level platform underscores Sarawak’s leadership role and readiness to engage with the evolving demands of the global travel trade.

In addition, Dr. Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor will feature as a panelist at the OTM Forum session titled “Beyond the Usual: Mapping Where Indian Travellers Will Go Next”, where she will share insights on how Sarawak is preparing for the next wave of outbound demand from India.

Sarawak is accelerating its tourism development efforts as a key contributor to the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. With interest from the Indian market growing by 8%, the destination is positioning its nature-led tourism offerings as a central pillar of the national strategy. By targeting double-digit growth, Sarawak aims to play a vital role in supporting Malaysia’s ambitious goal of 43 million international arrivals, including a significant share of the projected 2 million Indian travellers.

The destination’s appeal lies in its ability to deliver meaningful, immersive experiences through its rich cultural heritage and pristine natural landscapes. For Indian travellers, Sarawak offers unique, nature-focused experiences at iconic sites such as the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Mulu National Park and Niah National Park, catering to culturally curious and experience-driven audiences.

OTM 2026 provides Sarawak Tourism Board with a strategic platform to enhance visibility, build long-term partnerships, and strengthen engagement across India’s travel ecosystem. These initiatives are expected to facilitate customised itineraries, reinforce distribution networks, and drive sustained destination awareness across the Indian market.
