The Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI) has expressed its strong support for the Government of India and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the current period of global uncertainty, while also highlighting the growing concerns faced by the outbound travel industry.
In an official statement, OTOAI reiterated that national interest remains the top priority and stated that the travel fraternity fully supports all efforts aimed at ensuring India’s safety, economic stability, and resilience amid ongoing global challenges.
However, the association also pointed out that tourism is traditionally among the first sectors to feel the impact during times of crisis and often one of the last industries to recover. The Prime Minister’s recent appeal encouraging citizens to prioritise domestic tourism and defer non-essential international travel — made against the backdrop of rising fuel costs, foreign exchange concerns, and global disruptions — is expected to significantly affect the outbound travel ecosystem.
OTOAI acknowledged the seriousness of the current situation and the importance of collective responsibility, but also raised concerns about the livelihoods of thousands of travel professionals, tour operators, travel agents, and allied service providers who depend heavily on outbound tourism.
In response, the association has initiated efforts to seek an audience with the Prime Minister’s Office in order to present the concerns and operational realities of the travel trade sector. OTOAI stated that the objective is to work towards a balanced approach that supports national priorities while also protecting businesses and employment linked to the industry.
The association further assured its members and stakeholders that it remains committed to representing the concerns of the travel fraternity responsibly and constructively during this period.
OTOAI also urged the industry and travellers to remain united, prioritise essential travel, and continue operating with responsibility, resilience, and professionalism as the sector navigates the evolving global landscape.
