Bihar Govt makes tourism trips mandatory for state employees

The Bihar Government has introduced a new initiative requiring all state government employees to undertake mandatory tourism trips across Bihar once every three months as part of efforts to promote domestic tourism and increase awareness around the state’s cultural, heritage, eco-tourism, and rural destinations.

Under the new directive, employees will be required to undertake a two-day trip covering at least three tourist locations within the state. The travel period will reportedly be treated as official duty, and employees will also need to submit photographs, travel reports, and feedback after completion of the visit.

Officials believe the initiative could help strengthen local tourism movement while encouraging greater public engagement with Bihar’s tourism offerings, including heritage circuits, spiritual destinations, wildlife attractions, and rural tourism experiences.

Industry experts have described the move as a unique tourism-driven administrative initiative that could generate increased travel activity across regional destinations while supporting local hospitality businesses, transport services, tour operators, and small tourism stakeholders.

The development also aligns with the broader national focus on strengthening domestic tourism and encouraging exploration of regional destinations within India.

Travel and tourism stakeholders believe the initiative could create stronger visibility for lesser-known tourism circuits across Bihar while contributing toward local economic activity and tourism infrastructure growth.
