Bhutan is entering a new phase of market development in its tourism journey with a renewed focus on strengthening and growing its source markets and deepening its engagement with travellers that is in sync with the kingdom’s wider tourism goals. In line with this vision, the Department of Tourism, Ministry of Industry, Commerce & Employment, Kingdom of Bhutan, has appointed BlinkBrand Solutions, a destination representation company offering specialist marketing, public relations and trade engagement services, as its official Public Relation and Sales Representative for the Indian and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) markets.

The appointment marks a significant step in Bhutan’s renewed focus on developing its source markets, with India remaining the kingdom’s largest and most strategically important tourism market, while also expanding on reach and awareness in the fast-growing high-yield MENA region. For BlinkBrand, the mandate brings together two closely aligned strengths: Bhutan’s distinctive philosophy of High-Value, Low-Volume tourism and BlinkBrand’s expertise in connecting destinations with rapidly evolving travel trade and high-value traveller segments.

The Bhutan Integrated Tourism Master Plan 2025 – 2034 provides a long-term framework for developing tourism as a sustainable engine of national development, with a strong emphasis on diversification, regional balance, sustainability and regenerative tourism. The mandate aims to support Bhutan’s wider ambition of creating tourism growth that generates long-term value for communities, culture, the economy and the environment, while protecting the Kingdom’s unique natural and cultural heritage.

At the heart of this approach is Bhutan’s philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH) and its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its High value, Low volume tourism model. The objective is not simply to attract more visitors to Bhutan, but to encourage the discerning visitors for longer and meaningful stays, spread tourism benefits across regions and seasons, and ensure that tourism contributes positively to the places and communities that host travellers.

Commenting on the appointment, Damcho Rinzin, Director, Department of Tourism, Bhutan, said, “This mandate represents more than a conventional destination marketing appointment. “India holds a unique and an advantageous place in Bhutan’s tourism ecosystem. As Bhutan’s closest neighbour and the largest source market, India consistently accounts for the largest share of annual arrivals into the Kingdom. In addition to the deep historical, cultural, spiritual and people-to-people ties, Bhutan and India have multiple direct flight routes and land border crossings that make Bhutan one of the most accessible international destinations for Indian travellers.” he further added.

Our focus will be on bringing the Kingdom’s evolving story and approach that is in sync with its wider national vision of growth to the right audiences across India and MENA region, building deeper engagement with the right trade, media and high-value traveller segments, build visitation while respecting the destination’s high-value, low-volume and regenerative tourism philosophy.”

The partnership will see BlinkBrand leverage its integrated capabilities across destination marketing, public relations, media relations, travel trade engagement, consumer campaigns, storytelling, influencer marketing and experiential activations to strengthen Bhutan’s positioning in India and the wider MENA region.

Bhutan’s appeal to Indian travellers is deeply rooted in its proximity, cultural affinity, people-to-people connections, distinctive Himalayan experiences and ease of travel. Indian nationals do not require a visa, but just an entry permit.
