Air India plans september network revival with more international frequencies

Air India is preparing to restore most of the flight services it had curtailed during July and August, with the airline planning to reinstate the majority of affected services from September 1, 2026. The carrier is also preparing to increase frequencies on several international routes as part of its upcoming winter schedule.

The planned network expansion will include additional services to key international destinations, with frequency increases planned for markets including New York, Tokyo and Milan. The airline is also expected to add services on routes involving Frankfurt, Zurich and Melbourne, strengthening connectivity across major global markets.

The move follows the reduction of several services during July and August amid operational pressures, including a sharp rise in fuel prices. According to an internal memo cited by Reuters, Air India plans to restore most of the curtailed services from September while simultaneously strengthening its international network for the winter travel season.

The planned restoration and additional frequencies are expected to improve connectivity for passengers travelling between India and key destinations across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. For the travel trade, the expanded schedule could provide greater inventory and additional routing options during the upcoming winter travel period.

The September network plan comes as Air India continues to rebuild and expand its international operations as part of its broader transformation programme. Increased frequencies on major international routes are expected to strengthen the airline’s global network and improve access to key business and leisure markets.

The planned changes mark another step in Air India’s network recovery and expansion strategy, with the airline looking to restore capacity while increasing connectivity on strategically important international routes ahead of the winter travel season.
