The warm light of the Mediterranean, the tranquillity of the gardens and the discreet shade of the hundred-year-old pine trees make the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc a place where art and nature meet. Since the early 20th century, renowned artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Chagall and Léger have been drawn to this unique atmosphere.
In this spirit, this season the hotel is joining with von Bartha gallery to present three monumental bronze hare sculptures by Barry Flanagan (1941–2009), from April 18 to October 19, 2025, installed outdoors in the heart of the property. Leaping over the dunes on the coast of the North Sea, tracing the energy of New York’s streets, or now standing proudly in the park of the legendary Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, Barry Flanagan’s hare sculptures have always found their place in the open air, where they come alive in conversation with their surroundings.
Matching his idea of the interplay of art and landscapes, von Bartha presents three monumental works, in the South of France. Together, these three sculptures create an enchanting journey—one of sculptural movement, memory, and the unexpected delights that only Flanagan’s hares can bring.
As you arrive, you are greeted by The Cricketer, 1989, a figure full of energyand wit, as if frozen mid-bowling action. Cricket was one of Flanagan’s greatpassions, and this hare, with its poised and fluid movement, pays homage toone of England’s legendary fast bowlers, Bob Willis. With one paw raised anda mischievous air it is A Welcome Unlike Any Other, setting the tone for the
playful elegance that awaits beyond the gates

Walking toward the entrance, you pass Large Monument, 1996, a sculpture of
striking presence and depth. This work is Flanagan’s tribute to the artist Rodin.
Here, the interplay of form and shadow creates a monumental encounter and
moment of reflection before stepping into the timeless luxury of the hotel.

In the heart of the park stands the Large Left-Handed Drummer, 2006, a
hare lost in the magic of music. Inspired by a medieval drawing that lingered
in Flanagan’s imagination, this sculpture pulses with joy and spontaneity. The
drum’s rhythmic beat seems to echo the lightness of summer days, blending
humor, history, and celebration into a single, timeless gesture. It is all about the
wonderful Rhythms of Summer.
