Czech consulate reopens in Mumbai to boost travel and tourism from India

CzechTourism, the Consulate General of the Czech Republic, and Prague Airport celebrated the reopening of the Czech Consulate office in Mumbai, marking the return of consular operations after nearly fifteen years. The office aims to support travellers from western and southern India applying for Czech (Schengen) visas, enhancing leisure, business, and MICE travel to Czechia.

A press conference and networking evening highlighted the joint efforts of the Consulate, CzechTourism, Prague Airport, and Czech Trade to promote Czechia’s offerings to Indian travellers, students, professionals, and businesses.

Ms. Barbara Andelova, International Marketing Manager – New Markets, CzechTourism, said, “Mumbai has always meant a lot to us. Having the Czech consulate return after fifteen years brings us closer to travellers and partners in a region that has been exploring Czechia beyond Prague. Indians are increasingly visiting wine regions, spa towns, and heritage cities like Prague and Brno. This office, together with Prague Airport and Czech Trade, will make Czechia more accessible.”

Ms. Katerina Vovkova, Consul General of the Czech Republic, added, “Reinstating the Mumbai office strengthens bilateral ties and restores services long awaited by students, tourists, and professionals. The office will simplify visa access for applicants across western and southern India, supporting multi-city travel and deeper engagement with the destination.”

The office will collaborate with VFS Global – Tourism Services, which manages CzechTourism’s India, Middle East, and Israel operations, to drive B2B and B2C engagement. GB Srithar, Head – Tourism Services, VFS Global, stated, “This reopening comes as outbound travel from India is rapidly expanding. It strengthens visa access, increases Czechia’s visibility, and promotes its rich cultural, heritage, gastronomical, and wellness offerings.”

VisitCzechia will launch a marketing campaign in early 2026 to showcase the country’s gastronomy, culture, heritage, and wellness experiences to Indian travellers.
