Guwahati is rapidly transforming into a hub of global hospitality, with 11 five-star hotels currently in the pipeline to meet the rising demand in the region, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says.
Among the hospitality projects, two “unique and different” Marriott International properties are coming up in the city, following the bhoomi poojan ceremony held on Monday, the chief minister tells mediapersons.
“Additionally, two Taj hotels are being developed in Guwahati Aerocity, while a Lemon Tree Hotel is under construction along the National Highway,” Sarma says at the bhoomi poojan ceremony of the Marriott Resort and Spa near LGBI Airport.
The Marriott property spans 76 bighas, making it distinct from other hospitality projects in the city, he adds.
Meanwhile, the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati is undergoing expansion with the addition of 100 more rooms.
“A Taj Hotel is replacing the Vivanta at Khanapara, and four more Marriott hotels are also being established in the city,” the chief minister notes.
Later, on his official social media platform, Sarma states that the MoUs for these hospitality projects—worth ₹500 crore—are signed during the Advantage Assam Infrastructure and Investment Summit held in February this year, and construction work is already underway within just three months
