IHG Hotels & Resorts announces the signing of a management agreement with Chentoor Hotels Pvt Ltd to develop Holiday Inn Express & Suites Madurai. The hotel is scheduled to open in early 2029 and will further strengthen IHG’s presence in south India, particularly in high-growth secondary markets.
The 150-key hotel, including 30 suites, will be located near Madurai International Airport. Madurai welcomed more than 27 million visitors in 2024, driven by its reputation as a major pilgrimage destination and home to the iconic Meenakshi Amman Temple. The city also serves as the nearest airport gateway to regional attractions such as Rameswaram and Kanyakumari. Growing it and industrial sectors are further increasing demand from business travellers.
Holiday inn express is one of IHG’s largest and fastest-growing brands, with over 3,200 hotels worldwide. Known for its modern design and efficient service model, the brand offers smart and flexible spaces suited for both business and leisure guests.
Sudeep Jain, managing director, south west asia, IHG hotels & resorts, said the signing strengthens IHG’s footprint in Tamil Nadu and supports its strategy to expand in high-growth micro-markets across India. He added that the hotel’s location near the airport and commercial hubs positions it well to serve a diverse mix of travellers.
A spokesperson from Chentoor hotels pvt ltd said the partnership with IHG hotels & resorts reflects the company’s commitment to developing quality hospitality assets in high-potential markets. The spokesperson added that the hotel is expected to deliver a strong guest experience backed by IHG’s global systems and operating standards.
