IFTO represents India at 6th UNWTO World Forum

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), VISITFLANDERS, Bruges city and Basque Culinary Center (BCC) hosted the 6th UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism from 31st Oct to 2 Nov 2021 in Bruges, Belgium.

The forum provides a global platform for experts in travel, hospitality and culinary fields from various countries to share ideas and present solutions to issues related to the Food travel industry. The theme for this year’s meet was ‘Gastronomy Tourism: Promoting Rural Tourism and Regional Development’ and it focused on economic development of communities and revival of tourism with a focus on culinary tourism.
India was represented by Chef Rajeev Goyal, president of the India Food Tourism Organisation (IFTO). He spoke about the contribution of gastronomy, preservation of local culinary knowledge and sustainable tourism to the revival of the tourism industry and economic and social development of local communities and even the people not directly involved in the tourism industry.

Other speakers included Chef Dieuveil Malonga, Founder of Chefs in Africa, Teresa Agovino, from Faroo, Vee Bougani from Sustainable Food Movement, Julia Goeschelbauer from Culinary Network Austria and a few more subject matter experts over the course of three days.

The closing event took place at Brewery De Halve Maan, a family brewery in Bruges.
