Kenya braces itself for action-packed calendar of events

With a host of events lined up in 2024, the Kenya Tourism Board will embark on several destination marketing activities to promote and showcase Kenya’s diverse attractions and unique experiences. The board will look to leverage on several upcoming international sporting tournaments as well as trade fairs and roadshows as highlighted below:

❖ Magical Kenya Ladies Open (MKLO): First up is the Magical Kenya Ladies Open, part of the Ladies European Tour, to be held from February 8-11, 2024 at Vipingo Ridge, Baobab Course in Kilifi County. The tournament attracts several top women golfers from around the globe along with thousands of spectators. The picturesque course, set along Kenya’s stunning coastline provides a majestic backdrop as the stars of the LET compete.

❖ Magical Kenya Open (MKO): Soon after, the eyes of the golf world will turn to Nairobi for the Magical Kenya Open, part of the European Tour, scheduled for February 22-25, 2024 at the Muthaiga Golf Club. Now in its sixth  decade, the Open has become a flagship event for Kenya. The country’s capital will be abuzz as fans and media descend on Muthaiga to watch professionals battle it out on one of Africa’s most renowned courses. Alongside showcasing Nairobi’s cosmopolitan vibe, the tournament will demonstrate Kenya’s long-standing excellence in golf.

❖ WRC Safari Rally: Motorsports take centre stage next as Kenya stages the iconic Safari Rally from March 28-31, 2024. Returning to its traditional Easter holiday weekend, the WRC Safari Rally is one of motorsport’s most gruelling and exciting events. Drivers will cover vast distances and tackle rugged terrain in Naivasha, Nakuru County based in the picturesque Great Rift Valley region. Thousands of spectators from across the globe are expected to flock to the region and witness the drama and spectacle unfold. The rally provides the perfect opportunity to display Kenya’s diverse landscape, abundant wildlife, and adventurous spirit to a massive global audience.

❖ ITB Berlin: As part of KTB’s efforts to promote Kenya as a premier tourism and travel destination, the board will participate at ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show, set for March 5-7, 2024. ITB Berlin attracts over 180,000 visitors, including 120,000 trade visitors, and showcases the latest trends and innovations in the travel industry. Kenya’s participation at this expo is key in establishing strategic partnerships with key source markets and promoting the destination to new potential visitors.
