The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) took its destination vision on the road this June, hosting a multi-city trade roadshow across three dynamic outbound markets, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Indore, on 2, 3, and 5 June 2026 respectively.
The roadshow comprised a delegation of 26 representatives from across the Mauritius Tourism ecosystem, including DMCs, luxury hotels and resorts, experience and activity providers, and airlines— offering direct access to a broad cross-section of the island’s tourism offering in a single forum. The event’s success was underlined by the presence of over 300 total attendees, inclusive of travel agents, tour operators, and travel trade media.
At each city, attendees were presented with a comprehensive overview of Mauritius as a destination, spanning its accommodation portfolio, experiential offerings, air connectivity from India, and the growing range of segments in which the island excels. From January to mid-May 2026, Mauritius welcomed 25,930 Indian visitors, a 19.1% year-on-year increase over the same period in 2025. These numbers confirm Mauritius’s success in effectively catering to the diverse preferences of Indian travellers.

Building on this growth, the roadshow reflected the evolving vision of the new MTPA team for the India market, one that looks well beyond leisure volume and towards the full spectrum of what Indian travellersare seeking today. Couples and corporate groups are drawn to Mauritius’s world-class hospitality infrastructure for destination weddings and large-scale MICE events. A growing cohort of wellness and spiritually-inclined travellers see the island as a sanctuary for transformative, health-conscious journeys. And a younger, more experience-driven generation is discovering that Mauritius consistently delivers something new, making it a destination that earns repeat visits through genuine depth and diversity. For MTPA, sustaining this momentum means speaking to each of these audiences with equal intent, and the roadshow was designed to ensure India’s travel trade can do exactly that.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Dinesh Burrenchobay, Chairman, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, said: “India is close to Mauritius in every sense, geographically, culturally, and emotionally. Indian travellers often refer to it as a’ home away from home’, and yet each time they return we ensure that they find something new to discover. Mauritius is an island that reveals itself over time, and no two visits are ever quite the same, whether it is a family finding a new corner of the island, a couple celebrating a milestone, or solo travellers seeking something beyond the expected. This roadshow was our opportunity to bring that versatility and depth straight to the attention of India’s travel trade, and to ensure they can share it with confidence with their clients. We want Mauritius to be an unforgettable experience for our Indian travellers”
Mr. Sunil Mathapati, Country Manager, MTPA India, added: “The roadshow revealed how genuinely curious and enthusiastic the travel trade community is about Mauritius right now. The hype among the Indian tourists is also consistently growing, as reflected in the statistical data. Events such as these will allow MTPA to channel that energy into stronger partnerships and better-informed selling. The conversations we had during the three-days gave us every reason to be excited about what comes next.”
The event also received high praise from the trade partners, underscoring the strategic value of MTPA’s outreach, Veena H, Wayfarers Hub – Bengaluru, added: “The Mauritius Roadshow in Bengaluru was outstanding and exceptionally well-organized down to the smallest details. Thanks to a full-day format, we had ample time for in-depth discussions and one-on-one meetings with quality hoteliers and B2B DMC partners that were genuinely fruitful. Kudos to the team for executing such a focused trade engagement platform—definitely one of the most productive roadshows I’ve attended this year.”
Ms. Jason Britter, Director of Sales Maritim Resort & Spa Mauritius, who participated from Mauritius added: “As a first-time participant, we were impressed by the quality of the organization, the professionalism of the program, and the strong attendance of travel trade partners in each city. The roadshow provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing relationships, establish new partnerships and better understand the evolving needs of the Indian outbound travel market. We were particularly encouraged by the strong interest shown in Mauritius and in our brand across all three destinations.
The Indian market remains a key growth market for Mauritius, and this roadshow has reinforced our confidence in its potential. We look forward to building on the connections made and to participating in future initiatives.”
Underpinning all of this is MTPA’s continous commitment to improving access. Closer collaboration with airlines to increase flight frequencies and strengthen connectivity from a wider range of Indian hubs remains a core priority, ensuring that the growing demand from across India translates into seamless, accessible travel.
As the Indian outbound market matures and diversifies, Mauritius is ensuring it is not just a destination Indians want to visit, but one they can reach with ease, return to with anticipation, and always find something new to experience.
MTPA is actively engaged in promoting Mauritius as a visa upon arrival and versatile destination that ticks all the boxes for the Indian travellers, A calendar of activities is ongoing to ensure that sustained marketing, promotional and digital actions are conducted towards showcasing Mauritius as an island destination that offers relaxation, rejuvenation, and entertainment while being a beyond the beach destination.
