Ministry of Tourism and Mastercard partner to promote India as a premium travel destination

The Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India, and Mastercard have signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening India’s position as a world-class destination for both domestic and international travellers.

Under this collaboration, Mastercard will use its global platforms—most notably its Priceless programme—to showcase India’s cultural, spiritual, natural, and culinary richness to audiences worldwide. The partnership will also support the broader tourism ecosystem by promoting secure and responsible digital payment practices and rolling out targeted marketing campaigns for diverse traveller segments. Beginning with Goa, Priceless.com will soon feature unique experiences from Varanasi and the interiors of Andhra Pradesh, with more destinations to follow.

Speaking about the partnership, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Tourism, said, “India offers travellers a wealth of experiences rooted in its heritage, culture, spirituality, cuisines, landscapes, and traditions. We continue exploring ways to present these experiences in innovative and impactful ways to audiences across the world. By leveraging global platforms, corporates can further elevate India’s positioning as a must-visit destination and deepen global engagement with our vibrant tourism ecosystem.”

As the official Knowledge Partner, the Ministry of Tourism will identify strategic tourism corridors and collaborate with State Tourism Boards, the Archaeological Survey of India, and the Ministry of Culture to develop immersive, high-impact travel experiences across the country.

Raja Rajamannar, Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, Mastercard, said, “We are honoured to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism to bring India’s remarkable stories and destinations closer to travellers everywhere. Through Priceless, we will curate and promote unforgettable experiences that highlight India’s diverse heritage and showcase its modern aspirations. This collaboration also reinforces our commitment to ensuring secure, seamless digital payments for travellers worldwide and for people across India.”

Gautam Aggarwal, President, India & South Asia, Mastercard, added, “Mastercard is committed to strengthening India’s digital economy by making payments safer and more accessible across the country, including in remote regions. By expanding secure and seamless payment acceptance throughout the tourism ecosystem, we aim to empower local communities and support greater economic participation. This collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism will help unlock new opportunities for tourism-led growth.”

The 24-month MoU will not only promote India as a vibrant travel destination but will also enhance the tourism value chain by encouraging secure payment usage, supporting adoption of safe digital transactions, and exploring innovative co-branded payment solutions tied to unique Indian destinations.
