Six Senses Fort Barwara celebrates five years of hospitality

Five years ago, Six Senses Fort Barwara opened its gates. The fort itself has stood for 705 years, carrying with it centuries of history, traditions and stories.

Built in the 14th century and restored over more than a decade, the fort has witnessed generations pass through its walls. Today, its original architecture and regal character sit alongside contemporary hospitality, offering guests a way to experience Rajasthan’s heritage through a considered blend of history, culture and well-being.

As Six Senses Fort Barwara marks, the anniversary celebrates a historic landmark that has found a new purpose without losing touch with its past. The restoration brought together two original palaces and two temples within the fort walls, preserving the character of the structure while allowing guests to experience its history as part of the present. Here, the past is not simply something to look at. It is part of the stay.

Wellness, sustainability and crafted experiences are central to the Six Senses Fort Barwara experience. Personalized wellness journeys rooted in Ayurveda sit alongside sustainability practices that care for the fort and its surroundings, including water management, solar energy, local sourcing and landscape restoration. Crafted experiences take guests beyond the fort walls, from heritage walks and visits to Chauth Ka Barwara to excursions into Ranthambore, offering a closer look at the region’s history, culture and landscape.

“Five years is barely a blink when you are standing in a 705-year-old fort. Fort Barwara has seen centuries come and go, and here we are, adding our own little chapter to its story. What makes this place special is that history is never just something you look at on a heritage walk. It is all around you, in the stones, the courtyards and the little details you discover along the way. And the best part? The story is far from over. We get to add a little something to it every single day,” said Burkhard Wolter, general manager of Six Senses Fort Barwara.

Over the past five years, guests have discovered different sides of Fort Barwara, from its heritage and wellness offerings to the wildlife, food and traditions of Rajasthan.

“No two guests experience Fort Barwara quite the same way. Some are drawn to its history and architecture, while others come for wellness or to discover the region beyond its walls. From the welcome they receive to the experiences curated around their interests, our aim is to make every stay feel personal and connected to the spirit of the place. That variety is what makes the experience special, allowing guests to find their own connection with the fort and the stories of Rajasthan,” said Rajat Gera, commercial director of Six Senses Fort Barwara.

For the team at Six Senses Fort Barwara, the anniversary is a moment to reflect on five years of hospitality and look ahead to what comes next. Through wellness, sustainability and experiences rooted in place, the property continues to introduce guests to the people, traditions and landscape of Rajasthan while allowing the fort’s own story to evolve.

Five years of Six Senses. Seven centuries of history. A new chapter in a story that continues to unfold.
