Digi Yatra makes history with gold win at National E-Governance Awards 2025

Digi Yatra has clinched the Gold Award at the 28th National Awards for E-Governance (NAeG) 2025, a recognition of its groundbreaking role in transforming air travel through cutting-edge digital innovation. This prestigious award celebrates Digi Yatra’s pioneering use of facial authentication technology and a Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI)-based ecosystem, delivering a seamless, secure, and paperless airport experience for millions of travelers.

The National Awards for e-Governance, presented annually by the Government of India, honor outstanding initiatives that redefine governance through technology. In 2025, 19 projects across six categories were recognized, and Digi Yatra stood out as a game-changer in the travel sector.

Launched in December 2022 at just three airports—Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi—Digi Yatra has since expanded at an unprecedented pace. Today, it is operational at 24 airports across India, with 17 million+ app downloads and 69 million+ usage instances, underscoring its massive adoption and trust among travelers.

Digi Yatra enables passengers to breeze through airport checkpoints in under 5 seconds using facial biometrics as a single token of identity—no paper, no hassle. Backed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and operated and managed by the Digi Yatra Foundation, this industry-led initiative ensures data privacy by design, with personal data deleted within 24 hours of the Scheduled Time of Departure of their flight.

Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO, Digi Yatra Foundation, said, “We are deeply honored to receive this award. It reinforces our commitment to delivering seamless, secure, and memorable experiences to the common air traveller. As we expand across India and beyond, our goal is to set a new global benchmark for digital identity solutions in air travel.”
