Bihar pushes Eco-Tourism around reservoirs

The Bihar Government is planning to strengthen eco-tourism infrastructure around state-owned reservoirs, ponds, and wetlands as part of a broader initiative to promote sustainable tourism and regional development across the state.

During a high-level review meeting on eco-tourism, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary directed officials to accelerate tourism development around government water bodies under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model while focusing on environmental conservation and visitor-friendly infrastructure.

The proposed plans include the development of tourism amenities, green zones, plantation drives, recreational facilities, and curated tourism packages aimed at attracting domestic travellers and boosting local economies.

Officials from the Environment, Forest & Climate Change Department and the Water Resources Department presented detailed proposals focused on improving wetland management, expanding green cover, and creating sustainable tourism ecosystems across Bihar.

Industry experts believe the initiative could significantly enhance Bihar’s eco-tourism, spiritual tourism, and rural tourism potential while generating employment opportunities and encouraging private sector participation in tourism infrastructure development.
