Uttar Pradesh’s Tourism push drives record visitor growth

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as one of India’s leading tourism destinations, recording more than 156 crore visitor arrivals over the past nine years as the state continues to strengthen its focus on religious, cultural, and heritage tourism. The growth has been driven by large-scale infrastructure development, destination enhancement projects, and the promotion of key pilgrimage circuits across the state.

The state’s tourism strategy has centred on the development of major spiritual destinations including Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura, Prayagraj, and Vindhyachal. Investments in tourism infrastructure, improved connectivity, and destination-focused initiatives have contributed to increased visitor footfall while supporting local businesses and employment generation.

Industry stakeholders note that tourism has evolved into a significant economic driver for the state, supporting hospitality, transportation, retail, handicrafts, and other allied sectors. Recent years have witnessed strong growth in pilgrimage tourism, with destinations such as Ayodhya and Varanasi attracting record numbers of domestic and international visitors.

The continued expansion of tourism infrastructure and destination development initiatives is expected to further strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s position within India’s tourism landscape. Tourism experts believe the state’s focus on heritage conservation, cultural experiences, and spiritual tourism will continue to drive visitor growth and economic opportunities across the region.
