48 hours of fun in Tri-Valley, California

Tri-Valley is a picturesque group of three valleys in the Mount Diablo region of California. This region hosts California’s oldest wine country, featuring 55 tasting rooms, a craft beer trail with 17 stops, and the state’s largest Premium Outlets. Tri-Valley offers a diverse culinary landscape, an award-winning Ice Cream Trail, charming downtowns, vibrant music and theatre scenes, and pristine hiking trails with breathtaking views. Conveniently located just 30 miles east of San Francisco and accessible via BART and the ACE train, it provides an idyllic escape from city life.

DAY ONE

Start your day with a sumptuous breakfast at the Sideboard Neighborhood Kitchen and Coffee Bar in Danville. Sideboard is a casual and cosy meeting place for quality handcrafted comfort food using seasonal local, organic, and sustainable ingredients. They also have a coffee bar where people can sip artisan coffee.

Mt Diablo State Park

After a hearty breakfast, head to beautiful Mt Diablo State Park, accessible via Mt. Diablo Scenic Blvd. in Danville. Enjoy a nice morning hike. Visit Tao House, home of Pulitzer-winning playwright Eugene O’Neill and now a National Historic Site. The view of Mt. Diablo is amazing through the writer’s window. The old barn still hosts his plays today.

Hart Avenue and East Prospect Avenue

Head to downtown Danville for lunch and shopping. Hartz Avenue and East Prospect Avenue are perfect streets to spend the afternoon window shopping at Francesca’s or finding a scrumptious nibble at Danville’s Chocolate. Danville Harvest, whose food is sourced with fresh organic ingredients, is an excellent option for lunch nearby.

The Blackhawk Museum

Visit the world-class Blackhawk Museum in Danville, where you will discover an extensive automotive gallery and award-winning Spirit of the Old West gallery. It also houses three additional exhibits that impress visitors of all ages. The Into China exhibit showcases handcrafted masterpieces, one of the world’s largest miniature models of the Forbidden City, and replicas of the Emperor’s Throne. One ticket gets you into all exhibits.

Beer Trail

Drive to Dublin and hop on the Tri-Valley Beer Trail. Inc 82 and Caps and Taps have exactly what you are looking for when it comes to beer or cider and a relaxing vibe to enjoy your company.

DAY 2

Today, proceed to Livermore. Enjoy a delicious meal and freshly brewed coffee at the artisan cafe, The Press. It is a bustling American cafe offering breakfast, panini, creative bites, coffee, and a patio. Try their Steel Cut Oatmeal paired with a Golden Latte first thing, or go for their Smoked Turkey and Pesto Pressed Panini later in the day. All ingredients are locally sourced and fresh.

Lake Del Valle

After breakfast, head down to Lake Del Valle in Livermore, with its gorgeous views and plenty of trails to get the heart pumping. The park’s centrepiece is a five-mile-long lake with a variety of water-oriented recreation, from swimming to windsurfing and boating, surrounded by 4,395 acres of beautiful land for hiking, horseback riding, and nature study.

Sundays in the Caves

Experience a wine and cheese pairing in the historic sandstone caves. Learn about the wines and their pairing with artisanal cheeses sourced from local and sustainable cheesemakers. This unique experience is offered only on Sundays at the Vineyard property of the caves. The duration of the tour is approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
