Air India has expanded its widebody fleet with the arrival of its second custom-built Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking another significant milestone in the airline’s ongoing transformation and fleet modernisation strategy.
The newly inducted aircraft arrived in New Delhi after a non-stop delivery flight from Boeing’s Charleston facility in the United States and features Air India’s latest cabin configuration and refreshed branding.
The addition forms part of the Tata Group-owned airline’s broader efforts to strengthen long-haul international operations while enhancing passenger comfort, premium travel experiences, and global connectivity.
Industry experts believe the induction reflects Air India’s aggressive expansion roadmap as the carrier continues investing in next-generation aircraft, upgraded cabin products, and international route development.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is expected to play a key role in supporting the airline’s long-haul network strategy, particularly across North America, Europe, and other major global markets.

Air India’s fleet transformation programme has remained a central focus since privatisation, with multiple new aircraft deliveries, retrofits, and service upgrades currently underway as part of the airline’s long-term growth vision.
