India’s aviation sector takes a significant step forward with the introduction of the SkyCast weather monitoring system at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi. The newly deployed technology is designed to improve weather forecasting capabilities and support safer, more efficient flight operations, particularly during periods of fog, turbulence, and rapidly changing weather conditions.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has welcomed the launch, noting that advanced weather intelligence systems such as SkyCast can enhance operational efficiency while strengthening passenger safety across the aviation network. He further highlighted the role of technology-driven solutions in improving the overall travel experience and supporting modern airport operations.
Industry stakeholders believe the deployment of SkyCast at one of India’s busiest airports represents an important advancement in aviation infrastructure. The system is expected to assist airlines, air traffic controllers, and airport operators with more accurate weather assessments, helping minimise disruptions and improve decision-making during adverse weather events.
As India continues to modernise its aviation ecosystem, the adoption of advanced weather-monitoring technologies is expected to play a key role in enhancing operational resilience and supporting the country’s long-term vision of becoming a leading global aviation hub. Officials have indicated that similar technologies could be expanded to additional airports across the country in the future.
