Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to offer stronger incentives to airlines launching international services, following a revised tariff framework approved by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA).
Under the revised structure, airlines introducing new international routes from Navi Mumbai International Airport will receive a 100% waiver on aircraft landing charges during the first year. The move is aimed at encouraging carriers to establish new international services from the newly operational airport and build traffic during its initial phase.
For international routes covering up to 5,000 km, airlines will receive a 50% reduction in landing charges in the second year. For routes exceeding 5,000 km, the framework provides a 50% reduction in the second year and a further 25% reduction in the third year.
The incentive framework also covers airlines that increase their international flight frequencies from NMIA. Additional short-haul frequencies will be eligible for a 50% landing-charge discount in the first year, while additional long-haul frequencies can receive discounts of up to 75%.
International cargo operations are also included. New international freighter services can receive a 90% waiver on landing charges during their first year of operation, supporting the airport’s ambitions to develop both passenger and cargo connectivity.
The revised framework specifically focuses the incentives on new international routes operating from Navi Mumbai International Airport, rather than applying them broadly across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
NMIA, developed by Adani Airport Holdings and CIDCO, is initially targeting annual passenger capacity of around 20 million, with planned expansion to significantly higher passenger and cargo handling capacity in later phases.
The landing-charge incentives are expected to strengthen the airport’s proposition for international airlines and encourage carriers to introduce new routes and additional frequencies. For the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the initiative could also support greater distribution of international air traffic between Mumbai’s two airport facilities.
The measure is therefore expected to play a role in establishing Navi Mumbai as an important international aviation gateway while improving connectivity options for travellers and strengthening the region’s overall aviation infrastructure.
