The Nagaland government is developing a Live Entertainment Economy Framework aimed at turning the state’s growing entertainment and events sector into a structured contributor to employment, revenue generation and tourism.
A planning meeting was held at the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in Kohima, chaired by Information and Public Relations Secretary Orenthung Lotha. The discussions focused on creating a framework that can help Nagaland monetise large-scale events while generating sustainable economic opportunities for local stakeholders.
Lotha highlighted Nagaland’s cultural heritage, musical talent, creative community and young population as key strengths for developing a stronger live entertainment ecosystem. He also stressed that major national and international events would require coordination across multiple government departments and stakeholders.
LiveNow has been appointed as the consultant for developing the framework. Its Director, Atsunglir Jamir, presented the firm’s initial study and outlined opportunities for the sector across skill development, employment, entrepreneurship and tourism promotion.
The proposed framework is expected to create opportunities for artists, performers, event professionals, technicians, production crews and other businesses connected to live events.
Infrastructure development has also been identified as an important requirement. According to the initial assessment, improving venues and related facilities would allow Nagaland to host events meeting national and international standards while strengthening its ability to attract major programmes.
Among the immediate objectives are positioning Nagaland as an entertainment hub in the Northeast, attracting major national and international events and developing “Nagaland Live” as a distinctive brand for the state’s emerging live entertainment ecosystem.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen Nagaland’s positioning as a destination for cultural and experiential tourism, building on the state’s existing reputation for music, festivals and cultural experiences.
Further consultations with government departments and other stakeholders are planned before a comprehensive and actionable framework is finalised.
