Air India Express defers operations from Noida International Airport

Air India Express has postponed its planned launch of operations from Noida International Airport (NIA), delaying its entry into what is set to become one of India’s largest aviation hubs. The airline has also decided to discontinue operations from Hindon Airport as part of a broader network and cost-optimization strategy.

The decision means that Air India Express will no longer be among the initial carriers operating from Noida International Airport when commercial services commence. IndiGo is expected to begin operations on the airport’s opening day, with Akasa Air joining shortly thereafter.

Industry observers note that the move reflects a reassessment of operational priorities as airlines continue to manage costs, fleet deployment, and network expansion plans amid evolving market conditions. The postponement is expected to reduce the number of launch carriers at the airport during its initial phase of operations.

Despite the delay, stakeholders remain optimistic about the long-term growth prospects of Noida International Airport, which is expected to play a significant role in expanding aviation capacity in the Delhi-NCR region and supporting future passenger growth. The airport is scheduled to commence commercial operations in June 2026 and is anticipated to become a major gateway for domestic and international travel.
